I have been on hiatus from my usual sculptural practice to reconfigure my visual language that can be added into what I have developed so far. My last sculpture Peaceful Chaos made me question the desire to create the figure and how much of the real world do I want reflected versus iconography from my built up mythos of characters and stories. More specifically I have noticed the moments where I experimented using oil pastel to draw on sculptural fabric attempting to add imagery into the form if it was because It was part of the process, or if it needed the support aesthetically.
I have come to the conclusion that at first It was to support the look of “putting in the work” for the appearance of effort placed onto the work as well as the lack of confidence of the sculptures to achieve its message with the form and space it takes up alone. However as I have been drawing and painting for the last year I started to realize there was stories that I wanted to tell that was only to be told beyond the form and it had to be projected differently than what I usually am familiar with. Presented here is one of the paintings that are public so far compared to the 18 others that are archived.
Future presentations of the collection will be announced as opportunities come along that fit right with the works.
