South Gate Museum and Art Gallery - Hometown Hero

What comes to mind when you hear Home Town Hero? For some, it might be a teacher who goes above and beyond for their students. For others it might be a neighbor who has done immense work in the community. How about the everyday heroes in our communities? For example, the Zapatero who walks all throughout Southeast Los Angeles; the cafeteria lady that shares their daily smile with you; or even those individuals you consider mentors even though they might not know it. We invite you to spotlight the hero or heroes in your home town, wherever your home town is or may have been. Think about what makes a hero, who in your life do you consider a hero, and how you can artistically shine a light on your Home Town Hero.

We can't wait for you all to come check out the beautiful artwork by our exhibiting artists.

Our public hours will be on Saturdays from 1pm-5pm starting April 6 through June1.

Artbug Gallery - Go Figure—Now!

Artbug is really excited for this upcoming show curated by @hagopnajarian as part of our residency partnership with @maarla_los_angeles.

Go Figure - NOW! celebrates a group of contemporary artists whose individual practices explore variations on the human figure in order to convey their personal understandings of, and unique observations on, our contemporary lived world. Celebrating a spectrum of experiences that range from joy to conflict, from the tenacity of struggle to the urgency of survival, their work provides a crucial glimpse into how life is lived in 2024, as communicated through their distinctly personal embodied experiences which somehow remain profoundly relevant for us all.
